Arterial Corridors and Environmental Justice Areas

Arterial Corridors and Environmental Justice Areas

This map depicts principal non-highway arterials as defined by the New York State Department of Transportation. Many of these roads are the focus of Greener Corridors, especially those that substantially overlap with environmental justice areas.

In the Bronx, close to 90 percent of the borough’s principal non-highway arterials run through environmental justice areas, which are designated for about 75 percent of the borough’s total land area. In Brooklyn and Queens, it is about 50 percent, while in Manhattan about 20 percent of the largest non-highway arterials are in EJ areas, which total 12 percent of the borough’s total land area.
