This virtual tour and discussion will highlight a woman ancestor. She was born in Washington Sq in 1845 and died there in 1912, after a half-century of artistic innovation in opalescent glass works alongside her colleagues Tiffany and La Farge. We will trace her life through Paris and London to arrive at her first beautiful stained-glass window at Grace Church on 10th and 5th Av., with nearby locations of interest at Union Sq and the Village. We will review her windows at the late St. Vincent’s Hospital Chapel, as well as other locations in the City. We will focus on her fellow artists, writers, and other leaders who lived in or around #3 Washington Sq. N. A newsletter to participants before and after will contain relevant materials about her, fellow artists, the Gilded Age clients, and other milestone events, with a self-guided tour.
