Brooklyn Bridge, DUMBO

Janes Walk

Led By Scott Wooledge, Scott's New York

Offering a version of my very popular, 5-star rated walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. We’ll depart from City Hall Park, and travel over the bridge, along the way I’ll discuss why Brooklyn Bridge as a timeless achievement both visually and technologically. I’ll discuss the Roebling family, the key engineers, including contributions of Washington’s wife, Emily. We’ll enter into DUMBO, which we’ll discuss NYC’s dominance in the shipping industry and the neighborhood’s hey day of industry. DUMBO is an ideal backdrop to discuss the changing face of NYC as industry has given way to commercial, retail and residential uses along the waterfront. By sunset, we’ll conclude in Empire Stores and see how Marvel Architects have transformed the 19th century warehouse into a beautiful mixed use building that still honors it’s proud industrial past.

This walk is sold out, but the waitlist is open.

Accessibility

The route is about 2 miles. The pace is leisurely. There is a stairwell, but if a person with wheelchair wants to attend, there is an alternative route that I can take. Please let me know ahead of time, it will add about a half mile to the route, but I am ok with that, as long as I know ahead of time.

Location Information

RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
