Beyond the Bloody Angle: 500 Years on Doyers Street

Janes Walk

Led By Steve Madeja

“The Bloody Angle.” “The Most Dangerous Street in New York.” Chinatown’s crooked little Doyers Street is often overshadowed by sensational tales of gang warfare, but there’s so much more to this one-block wonder. In this talk, we’ll look at five centuries of culture, commerce, cuisine, virtues, and vices on this little lane, from opera houses to gambling dens, taverns to tongs, distilleries to dim sum joints. You’ll discover that Doyers Street is more than its violent reputation – it’s the beating heart of Chinatown history and a microcosm of New York itself.
