200+ free walks led by New Yorkers across the city are the ultimate celebration of urban life and culture

April 23, 2025

(New York, NY) — On Friday, the Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) announced its full list of walks for Jane’s Walk NYC 2025, which will be held May 2-4. This year, there will be over 200 walks for New Yorkers to choose from throughout all five boroughs.

Jane’s Walk is an international celebration of urban life and culture. Jane’s Walk NYC, hosted annually by MAS since 2011, is the largest Jane’s Walk festival in the world.

Jane’s Walk is the ultimate celebration of NYC neighborhoods, history, and culture. New Yorkers from all walks of life – from trained tour leaders to students to passionate community members –share the places and stories that make their neighborhoods unique, explore the hidden aspects of the city, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbors.

Jane’s Walk events will take place during the first weekend in May rain or shine, and are free and open to the public. Events include guided in-person walks, self-guided and virtual walks. For capacity reasons, RSVPs are required for in-person walks guided by volunteers. To register, visit mas.org/janes-walk-nyc-2025.

“Jane’s Walk NYC is a celebration of the vibrancy, history, and diversity that makes our city so extraordinary,” said Keri Butler, Interim President, Municipal Art Society of New York. “Led by community members, historians, librarians, students and any New Yorker with an interest in storytelling, these walks create an opportunity for New Yorkers to explore different aspects of their city—from the quirky to the historic. We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm for Jane’s Walk continue to grow, and we look forward to another inspiring weekend of collective discovery. Slots for in-person walks fill up quickly, so act fast and sign up!”

“Leading a Jane’s Walk last year through Harlem, inspired by Colson Whitehead’s novels, was a truly unforgettable experience–especially when Colson himself made a surprise appearance. It was a powerful reminder of how stories and places intersect, and how our city is a living, breathing narrative,” said Daniel Pecoraro, Jane’s Walk leader. “I’m thrilled to be back this year with Quenching Brooklyn’s Thirst, a dive into a lesser-known chapter of the borough’s history. I’m excited to share this walk with fellow New Yorkers and uncover the story behind the hidden systems that helped the borough grow into what it is today.”

The hardest part of Jane’s Walk is choosing where and what to explore. With over 200 walks over three days, it’s impossible to do them all.
