Black Brooklyn Memories 1930’s-1960’s along the A/C train line. We meet upstairs on Fulton Street at the C train, Kingston -Throop stop, inside McDonalds (1531 Fulton Street, site of the old Brooklyn Apollo Theatre), for a walk down Fulton Street acknowledging the business and culture of the 1930’s-1960’s that helped shape the community.
The A and C trains brought thousands of Southern and Caribbean migrants to Bedford Stuyvesant during the 1st and 2nd waves of the Great Migration. Fulton Street remains the primary commercial artery for the community, however the community has changed.
Although the jazz/ venue sites have been demolished or repurposed we remember the rich jazz legacy of the community. We will walk through the streets that produced luminaries such as Max Roach, Randy Weston, Jitu Weusi, Judge William Thompson
