The Williamsburg Bridge: A Span of Steel and Gold

Janes Walk

Led By Bryce Cronkite-Ratcliff

The Williamsburg Bridge is a New York City icon unto itself. Starting service as the longest suspension bridge in the world, the bridge has been woven into the byways of the city ever since. Join us for a walk over the bridge as we retrace its history, from pneumatics to jazz and granite to gold, with, of course, a lot of steel in between.

This walking tour will take us from Manhattan to Brooklyn, a minimum walking distance of about 1.4 miles (1.7 to the nearest Subway station). Comfortable shoes, water, and a tolerance for metallic noises recommended.

Accessibility

This tour requires walking a minimum of 1.5 miles with about 130 feet of elevation gain. Pathways can be narrow and crowded, and the environment can be quite noisy. Subway, Bus, and CitiBike stations are available at both ends of the bridge.

Location Information

RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
