Gowanus Creative Walk is a self-guided walk through the Brooklyn neighborhood of Gowanus, a formerly industrial area undergoing rapid redevelopment. Participants will be given a list of seven specific locations to visit, and a history of each site will be provided. Throughout the walking route, participants are encouraged to take photographs and/or make recordings of the environment.
This self guided walk aims to allow participants to engage more deeply with the neighborhood through artistic means and to create a community-based archive of an area experiencing change.
Participants should bring a camera or phone capable of taking pictures and making recordings. Participants are welcome to complete as much of the route as they are able and the planned route will be wheel-chair accessible.
Accessibility
The walk is roughly 1.5 miles and is intended to be accessible for all. Participants can walk at their own pace and complete whatever portion they are able. Both the start and end points of the walk are close to public transit, including the R, F and G subway lines and the B103 and B37 bus routes.
Location Information
RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
