Washington Heights: NYC’s Most Newly Famous Historic Neighborhood

Janes Walk

Led By Leigh Hallingby

The fact that Washington Heights is finally getting the recognition that it deserves (thanks to its most famous resident Lin-Manuel Miranda) makes this a perfect time to take a virtual walk “In the Heights.” This 45-block-long neighborhood has SO MUCH to offer: historical ties to the American Revolution; wonderful museums, murals, parks, bridges, theaters, houses of worship, and Art Deco architecture; and three colleges and universities. Some of NYC’s most iconic baseball history took place in Washington Heights. And the neighborhood is actually still an important sports destination. In addition, Washington Heights has not one, but two, halls of fame.
