Ray Carney’s Harlem: 1959-1976

Janes Walk

SOLD OUT, WAITLIST OPEN

Led By Daniel Pecoraro

This is an unauthorized love letter to Colson Whitehead’s novels Harlem Shuffle and Crook Manifesto. Following along some of the locations (real-life and fictionalized) in the two books, this tour will look at 25 years of Harlem history and understanding the context of New York in that greater period.

Accessibility

The tour will be along occasionally hilly ground for about two hours (exact route TBD). The start and end points of the tour are closest to the A/C/D at 125th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue; the 125th Street stations of the 1 (at Broadway) and 2/3 (on Lenox Ave/Malcolm X Blvd) are also close by. The M2, M3, M4, M10, M11, M60 SBS, M100, M101, and Bx15 are all near the tour start/end points, and the M60 SBS, M100, M101, and Bx15 connect to the 4/5/6 at 125th and Lexington and the Metro-North at 125th and Park. Citibike docks are available at 124th and 126th along St. Nicholas.
