1960s and 1970s NYC Street Photography

With Sylvia Laudien-Meo

[Virtual tour] Featuring: Gary Winogrand, Diane Arbus, Lee Freedlander, Elliott Erwitt, Dawoud Bey, Martha Cooper. The 60s were intense times in the US: the Civil Rights Movement, the war in Vietnam, space travel…young photographers took their cameras to the street, no longer with the intention to teach their audiences any wisdoms, but to capture portraits and scenes that would make us think and question, that would open our minds and inspire further investigation, or sometimes just make us smile. Young people had to find new ways of making sense of this world and to bring about change. Street art, documented especially by Martha Cooper, was a reflection of this new reality. Curated by Sylvia Laudien-Meo.
