Tribute in Light

What Is the State of Our Streets?

Select Bus Service - Photo by Denis Desmond We’ve offered two excellent programs on streets; now take an eye-opening tour, experiencing our changing streets and changing transportation firsthand in the company of highly knowledgeable tour leaders.

On the first tour on April 16, we’ll begin by boarding a Select Bus and assessing its operation. (Does the ticketing work? Comparable to a subway in speed?) Then we’ll check out pedestrian and bicycling street improvements and end by learning about a new social marketing campaign called 5 to Ride, a positive response to a tragic accident.

Sharing the Streets

On the second tour, to take place on April 23, we’ll see the environmental, social and economic challenges facing neighborhoods along the Sheridan Expressway, but we will also see what has already been accomplished through vision and hard work. We’ll have a bird’s eye view of a toxic site well on its way to becoming worthy of its historic name, Starlight Park, and we’ll visit the celebrated Concrete Plant Park, one of Manhattan’s most memorable.
