Fresh Kills

In 2001, MAS and the Department of City Planning (DCP) sponsored a design competition for Fresh Kills, the former landfill that closed earlier that year. The competition for the 2200 acre site was won by Field Operations and DCP conducted a series of community planning workshops to refine this vision between 2003 to 2006.

Construction on the first phases of the project will be completed in 2010 and the park is scheduled to be completed in 2035. To find out more about Fresh Kills Park, watch the video above, visit the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation site here, the Fresh Kills Park blog here, or take one of the regular tours of it offered by the Parks Department.
