ImagineConey

Click here to download the presentation given by MAS on January 14, 2009, at Our Lady of Solace Church, Coney Island.

Coney was once a place of extraordinary spectacle, inventiveness and fun – the “world’s playground”. Over the last several decades, Coney Island has declined, but survived. Millions of New Yorkers still visit Coney Island. But Coney Island needs revitalization. How can we make Coney Island one of the world’s great destinations once again?

Imagine Coney: the Initiative

MAS has launched a global initiative to seek new ideas for Coney Island known as “ImagineConey”. We have invited the public to submit ideas online at imagineconey.com and through two public workshops held in November in Brooklyn. Click here to read more about the two workshops.

We also invited a team of world-class architects, engineers, amusement designers and creative producers to participate in a “charrette” – an intense design workshop – on November 13 & 14, 2008, to develop new ideas for activities, designs, events and interim uses for Coney Island.  Click here to see photos and read about their ideas. Click here to see photographs of the team in action.

The team was briefed by key stakeholders at Brooklyn Borough Hall on October 27 and reviewed ideas submitted to the ImagineConey website during the charrette. On November 17, the team presented their initial findings at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
