The city’s rezoning plan along 125th Street in Manhattan, from Second Avenue to Broadway, originally promised to create a vibrant Harlem Main Street, buttressed on either side by access to two of New York’s waterfronts. MAS submitted comments throughout the public review process, calling on city planning commissioners and council members to ensure that the plan promoted integrated new development on 125th Street, foster Harlem’s arts and culture institutions, and helped to maintain the famed street’s urban retail diversity. MAS also called for affordable housing to meet the community’s needs and to plan for waterfront access.
