Understanding that the streets and sidewalks of New York represent the city’s single largest public space, the MAS has worked closely with community groups, like-minded organizations and elected officials to remove, or control the newsrack blight currently marring our public sidewalks.
Cities like Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco have all passed and are enforcing newsrack regulation that are both effective and workable, and have not put the users of newsracks out of business. New York City is way behind other cities when it comes to enforcing and regulating newsracks. We need the public to help us convince elected officials and the city administration that New Yorkers want to see changes to the current newsrack regulations.
