Place Matters

Place Matters was formed in 1998 as a joint project of MAS and City Lore to foster the conservation of NYC’s historically and culturally significant places. These are places that hold memories and anchor traditions for individuals and communities, and that help tell the history of the city as a whole. Place Matters’ Census of Places that Matter has collected from hundreds of New Yorkers nominations of places that evoke associations with history, memory, and tradition. Many of these are featured as “Places That Matters of the Week.”
