MAS Panel Discussion: Preserving The Moderns – The Next Steps

lever house som building new york cityWednesday, April 2, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., reception to follow, at the Municipal Art Society, 457 Madison Avenue MAP.
Among New York City’s architectural treasures is a wealth of modernist buildings, including such world famous icons as the Seagram Building, Lever House, and the TWA Terminal. Those three and more than a score of others are designated New York City landmarks, but there are more modernist buildings worthy of preservation throughout the five boroughs. An expert panel will explore the challenges to preserving mid-20th century architecture and discuss which of the city’s undesignated modernist buildings are the most significant.

David Childs, FAIA, SOM, will introduce the program and panelists including: Frederic Schwartz, FAIA, Frederic Schwartz Architects; Nina Rappaport, Yale School of Architecture; Carol Willis, The Skyscraper Museum; and Barry Bergdoll, Department of Architecture and Design, MoMA. The panel will be moderated by Frank Sanchis, senior vice president, MAS.

Tickets are $15, $12 MAS members. Reservations are no longer being taken, but you can show up and pay on the door.
